Gentle & effective cranial osteopathy for adults and babies
Cranial osteopathy is a gentle, hands-on approach. From newborns through to adulthood, this gentle treatment can help ease tension and improve movement. We carefully adapt treatment to age, symptoms, and individual needs.
Adults often come to us with headaches or migraines, jaw tension, neck stiffness and dizziness or vertigo. For babies and young infants, parents may seek support for colic or reflux symptoms, unsettledness, favouring one side or restricted movement.

Cranial osteopathy for unsettled babies & infants
When your baby is unsettled, struggling with feeding, reflux or sleep, it can be hard to know what they need or whether you’re doing the right things. Cranial osteopathy uses gentle, non-invasive techniques to ease tension through the head, face, neck and body, helping your baby feel more comfortable while giving you greater peace of mind.
It can be particularly relevant after a prolonged or assisted birth, where physical strain may contribute to restricted neck movement, feeding difficulties or one-sided movement patterns. Help your baby feel more comfortable, while giving you greater peace of mind in those early weeks.
Ease headaches, improve balance and support the nervous system
Cranial osteopathy offers a gentle, complementary approach for adults dealing with migraines, vertigo, tinnitus, stress-related tension and other persistent aches or restrictions. It may be particularly useful when symptoms are difficult to shift. Whether you’re recovering postpartum, managing sports-related tension or feeling the physical effects of long working days, treatment is subtle and hands-on, helping you feel more comfortable, relaxed and at ease.

Restore balance at any stage of life
Cranial osteopathy aims to restore balance and offers a gentle, subtle form of osteopathic treatment that helps release stress and tension throughout the body. Unlike structural osteopathy, which involves physical manipulation, cranial osteopathy focuses on the quality of the body tissues and the cranial rhythm. The cranial rhythm refers to the subtle rhythmic shape change throughout the body and can be felt through gentle touch.
Benefits of cranial osteopathic treatment

Still have questions?
Structural osteopathy tends to involve more physical movement, mobilisation and manipulation. Cranial osteopathy uses subtler, gentler techniques, focusing on tension and the quality of the cranial and the body’s tissues.
If you’re new to Nordic Balance, start with an initial assessment so your osteopath can understand your symptoms, medical history and what you’d like help with. If you’ve been seen before, book a 30- or 45-minute follow-up depending on your treatment plan. A reassessment is needed if it’s been more than six months or your symptoms or needs have changed.
Your first appointment lasts up to 45 minutes. Your osteopath will ask about your symptoms and medical history, assess how your body is moving and explain what they find. If cranial osteopathy is appropriate, treatment can usually begin during the same appointment.
For babies and young infants, choose the option ‘initial for infants’; this gives parents time to talk through pregnancy, birth history, feeding, movement or any concerns they’ve noticed.
Initial assessments last up to 45 minutes. Follow-up appointments are usually 30 or 45 minutes, depending on what your osteopath recommends. That keeps it consistent with the broader osteopathy journey while making the baby/parent experience feel properly considered.
Parents often seek cranial osteopathy when a baby struggles to latch, finds feeding uncomfortable or consistently favours turning their head one way. Your osteopath will assess areas of tension and restricted movement that may be contributing.
Yes. Our current approach also includes postpartum mothers experiencing tension, stress-related symptoms or other physical complaints after pregnancy and birth.
Qualified osteopaths deliver cranial osteopathy, with some practitioners undertaking additional specialist training in paediatric and cranial osteopathy. We currently offer it at our Clapham and Wimbledon Village clinics.
Cranial osteopathy is designed to be very gentle and non-invasive. Our osteopaths use small amounts of pressure and adapt treatment carefully for newborns and infants, aiming to ease tension and help them feel more settled and comfortable.
Colic and reflux are common reasons parents bring babies to our cranial osteopaths. Treatment looks at the wider picture, including pregnancy and birth history and areas of physical tension or restricted movement that may be contributing to discomfort.
Cranial osteopathy can be used as a complementary treatment for adults experiencing migraines, vertigo or tinnitus. The gentle approach focuses on easing tension and addressing imbalances, and your osteopath will assess whether cranial treatment is appropriate for your symptoms.
